Juneteenth Is Here!

Juneteenth honors Black emancipation and the hope of equality. A federal holiday doesn't help.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the U.S. commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.

It derives its name from the combination of June and nineteenth.

It celebrates the order by Major General Gordon Granger proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865.

It is celebrated with parties, events and quiet reflection on the end of slavery.

Amen!
