How did Taiwan’s tallest building survive the largest earthquake in 25 years?
Taipei 101 (name of the building) has a 660-tonne pendulum that transfers energy into giant shock absorbers.
They help the 1,670ft high skyscraper to sway rather than topple.

The force of the quake was such that it could be felt in Shanghai, around 500 miles to the north of the epicentre, as per intitial reports. (CNN)
