“The Only Thing To Fear Is Fear Itself.” FDR

President Roosevelt first gave the “Fear Itself” advice at his inauguration.

It was in the midst of the Great Depression in 1933.

He felt that fear could be a greater obstacle than the actual challenges we face.

As we are all aware, these are times which may bring uncertainties for our future.

I suggest that we must first be sure our loving relationships are tight!

We must become better listeners and be conscious of what is going on in our neighborhoods, our states and our country.

We must also have a contingency plan if things go awry.

Be awake! Be aware

Disappointment?

There are many sources of disappointment.

Yourself, spouse, children, employer, co-workers and just life sometimes.

Maybe you are dealing with some disappointment in several of the above categories.

I think the most severe is disappointment in yourself.

This must be addressed first because it affects all other categories.

You must have a high enough sense of self esteem in order to properly address others.

The only way to solve disappointment in you is to forgive yourself.

Once you’ve forgiven self, you can forgive others!

Do You Have Wisdom?

If someone has genuine wisdom, they'll quietly display these 9 behaviors

While looking up the qualities of wisdom, I found three attributes.

They are: Knowledge, Experience and Good Judgement.

I beg to differ with the idea that these three qualities are all prerequisites of wisdom..

I think Good Judgement is the result of Knowledge and Experience.

So, I think Experience must come first.

After having many life experiences, a person can draw conclusions which become knowledge.

There is another quality that is outside the dictionary definition and that is Common Sense. It comes from the practice of knowledge and Experience.

It also comes from every day living and is learned as a person matures.

And hopefully, the application of Experience, knowledge, Good Judgement and Common Sense will enable one to have Wisdom.

Believe in Prayer?

I think most people who pray are asking God for something.

This is understandable.

Sometimes their prayers are answered, sometimes not the way they wish.

When the outcome is not favorable, some people give up on prayer.

We have to remember our God is not a push button God.

I think praying is establishing a relationship with God.

I also don’t believe we should pray only when we want something.

I believe in prayers of thanksgiving for all our blessings.

Of course, I believe God loves us and that love is unwavering.

Thank you, God!

Which Memories Should You Keep And Which Discard?

Keep in mind that I’m no expert on anything.

I’m just offering a few thoughts for your consideration.

I think that memories that left a successful outcome are keepers.

Those memories will continue to boost your self confidence throughout your life.

They say that mistakes you’ve made are a good learning opportunity.

That’s a nice cliche’.

But, do we actually correct our future behavior or repeat mistakes again and again?

Bad memories are worth keeping ONLY if they correct our behavior once and for all!

In other words, don’t carry BAD BAGGAGE if it drags your self confidence down!

How Do YOU Define Happiness?

This little boy defines happiness as a sunny day and a free day from school.

I believe each of us would define happiness much differently.

Freedom from a serious illness could be a cause for celebration.

Maybe your girlfriend said YES!

A job offer that will definitely raise your standard of living is another source of joy.

Graduation day is a source of pride for the graduate and parents.

Reuniting with a long, lost friend can be a happy moment for both parties.

How do you define HAPPINESS?

What If Your House Changed Its Color Each Season?

When Joe Doucet bought a new house in Katonah, New York, he wanted to make it as environmentally friendly as possible.

As a designer and inventor, he immediately found himself wondering whether the exterior of his home could play a role in mitigating the effects of climate change.

“One of the things I had not really considered before was: What color should I paint the house?” he told CNN, speaking in a video call.

It’s well known that light-colored buildings reflect heat and stay cooler while darker ones absorb — just compare chilly Scandinavia’s black housing tradition to the whitewashed homes found across warm Mediterranean countries.

But what shade would perform best in a climate like New York’s, with hot summers but dark and snowy winters? (CNN)

You get the idea!

Happiness Is Found In Our Adaptability To Change!

(Buddha)

It’s more difficult for us older people.

We are always remembering the way it used to be, but we can’t go back.

We must go forward and get in step with the changing times.

If we don’t, we’ll be left behind.

Young people don’t want to hear about the good old days.

They’re trying to grapple with today’s expectations so they can be relevant.

And we must do the same!

Don’t Worry About Weight. Avoid Fragility!

Anti-aging aspirations have turned longevity products and services into a wellness-industry gold mine.

But who wants to add on years only to spend them struggling to move, dependent on others and unable to enjoy basic activities?

What’s the point of sticking around longer if you can’t actually live life?

Building and maintaining strength and mobility helps preserve the independence you need to age with dignity — and the actions you take now make all the difference.

In order to avoid fragility, your diet must include more calcium.  (CNN)

Are You Proud Or Grateful?

An interesting question.

But, an important one.

I have had some successes.

In all honesty, I know I did not accomplish them alone

There were other people involved.

And there was very fortunate timing.

So, the operative word for me must be GRATEFUL!

I also believe PROUD is a very dangerous word.

If I look at the sequence of events that lead to some successes, it is obvious they were not of my doing.

Thank you God!

It would be a helpful exercise for each of us to review the events of our lives.

And put each one in the PROUD or GRATEFUL column.
