Your Child’s Behavior At School?

man in black and white polo shirt beside writing board

Do you attend parent-teacher meetings when they are offered?

I’m hearing that there is a growing disrespect from students toward their teachers in the classroom. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised because our civil society seems to be less civil!

Your child will not receive the education necessary to compete in an increasingly technical workplace if the classroom is disruptive.

This is where you come in!

You must set the personal example as a responsible citizen who accepts the responsibility for your child’s behavior. We can’t have the inmates running the asylum.

Children need love and discipline during their formative years so that you will see them in later years living the life of a responsible adult.

Get involved and stay involved in your child’s life!

Dealing With An Unfair World!

If you are willing to look, you can see unfairness everywhere!

A glaring example is the indigenous peoples of the world. They were the original settlers of every region on the earth, such as the American Indian. A New York Times article tells the story of the indigenous peoples of Guatemala who have been persecuted for CENTURIES!

You don’t have to go far to see examples of people being treated unfairly. When I was young, I would see unfairness and ask God why He doesn’t do something about it. As I matured, I realized that it was my responsibility and yours to do something.

If you and I will reach out to only one person to lend a helping hand, we will change the whole world for the better!.

What Is Your Competitive Edge?

You won’t make any spectacular gains in your career by merely doing what is expected of you. You do that just to stay employed.

No, in order to get noticed, you must become noticeable!

Getting to work earlier than the expected starting time is a simple example of something you can do to get noticed. Are there problems in your workplace that are in need of solutions? Think about what could be done to solve those problems.

There are many ways you can demonstrate to the higher ups that you care about  the company and are looking out for its well being. Also, don’t be discouraged if your extra efforts aren’t rewarded immediately.

Most of your fellow workers are just going through the motions of their jobs.

Continue your extra efforts. They will pay off!

Coping With Failure!

black and white man young lonely

Failure is inevitable for all of us. Of course, the magnitude of one person’s failings may vary greatly when compared with those of another.

Nevertheless, failure is a common experience that yields immediate disappointment, but perhaps long term benefits. The biggest mistake we can make is to fail at something and repeat the failure a second time.

Failure is often a greater teacher than success because it hurts so much that it commands our attention in retrospect. The biggest business failure I had was a girls clothing line I initiated that I thought would be very popular and lucrative. i made the classic mistake of starting a business for which I had no previous experience.

When you fail, examine the reasons and move forward much wiser!

Are You Easily Intimidated?

portrait of young woman

Do you honestly tell people how you feel or just say what you think they want to hear because you are intimidated by the situation?

I remember, as a teenager, I had a summer job at a pharmaceutical company. I would load empty bottles onto an assembly line. Machines filled with medicine would pour their contents into the bottles.

A long time employee came up to me on my first morning and told me not to work fast because he didn’t want management to know that the loading could be done faster. As a sixteen year old, I was easily intimidated by that older man and did what I was told to do.

How about you? Do you stand up for yourself or just go along?

A Dog Named “Happy!”

adorable blur breed close up

We found her at a shelter.

She had recently had a litter of puppies and her previous owner had evidently sent her out into the streets where she was discovered one night by the local police.

For my wife, it was love at first sight! So much so, that she instantly named her “Happy” because her new canine friend makes her happy.

I have never been enthusiastic about pets, although we’ve had a few over the years. She has become an interesting learning experience for me.

It has become obvious that she only has two priorities: To give love and receive love!

I believe she can be a model for all of us. After all, what is more important than giving and receiving love?

Do The Worst First!

action adventure challenge climb

This is a message worth repeating.

Are you a well managed person or not?

Do you put off doing the things that you want to avoid?

My wonderful wife of 54 years taught me to put the worst first. As in many other aspects of life, she is right. Success is found by those people who face difficult tasks head on!

Success is the result of doing things you don’t want to do. If you develop the habit of doing the thing you least want to do at the beginning of each day, you’ll get an immediate dose of self confidence and increased self esteem to carry you through the day with a “can do” attitude.

Of course, putting things off will lower your self esteem.

Remember this easy to remember saying, “Do the worst first!”

Don’t Burn Your Bridges!

architecture art bridge cliff

I was the general sales manager of a large real estate company. We also had a mortgage company subsidiary managed by Vic Miller. Sometimes, we disagreed on different issues, but we always treated one another with respect. After five years, I decided to go out on my own and begin a consulting business.

I called on the president of a large bank to see if he would hire me as a sales consultant. After our initial meeting, he said he would get back with me.

A week later he called to say I was hired! He said that he checked me out with his old friend, Vic Miller. Vic’s recommendation lead to fifteen years of a lucrative relationship with that bank!

You never know who you may need to help you.

Don’t burn your bridges!
