Let Me Tell You A Story About Managing Your Pride!

His name is Spencer Torkelson.

He was the #1 draft choice of the Detroit Tigers in 2020.

He hit 31 homers while playing 1st base last year.

For some reason, he has lost his swing this season.

A week ago, he was sent down to a minor league team, The Toledo Mudhens.

During an interview with a Detroit Free Press reporter yesterday, Torkelsen said:

“It stings a little bit, you know. But, I’m right where I need to be. I think it was a fine move!”

Well, that’s my little story about pride management.

How well do you manage yours?

Tiger Woods has enlisted the help of his son, Charlie, to serve as a swing consultant for the 2024 U.S. Open.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Woods explained that Charlie has “seen me hit more golf balls than anyone” and trusts him to provide the support he needs.

Tiger says he trusts son Charlie with his swing.

He’s inside the ropes as Player Support this week.

It’s especially helpful, he says, with his putting.

Tiger and Charlie have already been working on putting at Pinehurst Resort leading up to the start of the tournament on Thursday.

They were together when Tiger played a practice round with Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler on Monday. (CNN)

What Makes A Happy Life?

Of course if helps a lot if you are reasonably secure with your finances.

Are you content with what you’ve said and done? Have you shown compassion to others?

None of us have lived a perfect life.

If you’ve made a mistake that harmed others, have you apologized in word & deed?

Because of our pride, many of us won’t or can’t apologize.

Do the RIGHT thing & apologize when appropriate.

Are you honest? It’s much easier to have a happy life if you tell the truth.

Do you practice COMPASSION for a person in need?

You may know of someone who is down on their luck and could use a hand.

Nothing makes a person happier than helping someone else.

In order to have the happiest life possible, you must be able to live with yourself!

If not today, when?

The First House Captured In Normandy On D-Day!

Bernieres-sur-Mer, France (CNN)

Their target was an elegant, two-story villa sitting solitary on a misty beach.

No houses stood nearby, just minefields, military pillboxes and enemy machine gun posts.

It was D-Day, and on that overcast morning on June 6, 1944, 10 boats filled with Canadian troops crossed the English Channel’s choppy waters to head for the 1,500 yard stretch of Normandy coastline where the house was located.

These soldiers’ small part in the world’s largest seaborne invasion was to capture the coastal town of Bernieres-sur-Mer.

Seizing the house would be a key objective.

The house has been completely restored.

Get Outside!

Do you go from your car to you home?

AND do you go from your home to your car?

AND do you go from your car to the grocery store?

AND do you go from the grocery store to your car?

AND do you go from your car to your job?

AND do you go from your job to your car?

I don’t see the word OUTSIDE anywhere!

You’ve got to get OUTSIDE while the weather permits it.

If you can’t walk OUTSIDE, just sit OUTSIDE!

If you can walk, walk OUTSIDE!

Surviving Pat Sajak?

Pat Sajak: 'Wheel of Fortune' host's life, career in photos

I guess Vanna White will remain on ‘Wheel Of Fortune”, but Pat Sajak has retired.

He was a part of all our lives for 41 years and “8,000 spins.”

It seemed like he would go on for all ours and our kid’s lives.

Well, we must always remember that everything must end.

We are living in and will continue to live in a changing world.

We will always be saying, “hello” to something new and “goodbye” to something old.

Pat remained true to the premise that WHEEL is just a game.

There would be no politics (Thank God) or other distractions.

It is JUST A GAME!

The Sailboat With A Hole In The Bottom!

My brother and I were avid sailors at a young age.

A friend of mine lived in a lakefront house and he had a small sailboat in a creek that ran through his yard to the lake.

Everyone knows a sailboat needs wind to be able to move.

The stronger the wind, the faster the sailboat could go.

We would listen for “small craft warnings” on the radio.

We would jump in the car and head to my friend’s house and his sailboat.

The wind and waves were always strong during “small craft warnings.”

A sailing we would go!

We had one problem.

The old wooden sailboat had a hole in the bottom.

Water was coming into the boat fast.

Our solution was A BUCKET!

One of us would SAIL and the other would BAIL!

When the bailing guy got tired, we switched.

We always made it safely back to that little creek and had the adventure of our lives!

When I told this story to my wife this morning, she asked “Why didn’t you patch the hole?”

I replied, “It never occurred to us.”

Ever Had Breakfast With A Baltimore Oriole?

If not, you haven’t lived!

Yes, we have gone to the birds.

And we’re happy to be doing so.

Every morning she flies up to the feeder we have hanging just outside our kitchen window.

Believe it or not the favorite food of a Baltimore Oriole is GRAPE JELLY!

The feeder is built just to attract that bird.

There is a little dish on it just for the jelly.

One of these days I am going to ask the bird if it would like peanut butter too.

The very best way to start your day is with a visit from a Baltimore Oriole!

Try it. You’ll like it!

She Picks Up The Pieces!

Angel Paintings for Sale - Fine Art America

I’ve always been a risk taker.

My angel (my wife) is a detail, careful planning person.

So, I guess opposites DO ATTRACT!

As an example, we wanted to invite our parish priest for dinner.

In order to remember, I wrote the name of our church on a paper plate last night.

This morning, some angel had written the priest’s name, phone number and hours the parish is available for phone calls.

That’s a simple example of HER picking up the pieces.

There have been many more examples of greater gravity.

That’s one of the reasons why she is and has always been MY ANGEL!

I hope you also have an angel in your life!
